“Head is the answer...Head is the future”: 20 Percent Head Knowledge

In my previous post I shared, "Personal finance is about 80 percent behavior. It is only about 20 percent head knowledge."

I recommend the following four authors to get good head from...

I’m a huge fan of Dave Ramsey who was introduced to me by my Aunt Meshell, author of Shattered Dreams. Ramsey outlines a seven-step plan for financial success which he calls The Seven Baby Steps. Those baby steps provide are a strong template for getting out of debt, budgeting and saving money, no matter your income level. While you don’t need to follow them completely to see financial success, using them as a guideline or road map, can be extremely helpful — especially if you are just starting. Ramsey does a great job of packaging it and “selling” it so that the lightbulb goes off and you actually are motivated enough to follow it. Every chick on my team has read this book and lives out his principles.

The Little Black Book of Success: Laws of Leadership for Black Women -- This is a book for us, by us. This book, written by 3 powerful women who have "been there, done that", should be required reading for all black women (and all women of color) who aspire to become effective leaders. Challenging, inspiring and motivating.

Tracy was a 30-something college dropout who looked around upset with his situation but only had himself to blame. He attended a seminar where the speaker shared a "Three Percent Rule", which means wherever you are in life 3% of your income should go to YOUR professional development. He invested $600 into his development that year (3% of $20,000) and increased his salary by 50%. He asked himself, "If my income can double by investing a mere 3%, where can I go by investing 5% or 7%?" His self made journey of discipline is both chilling and refreshingly honest.

“Perhaps the most important insight of all with regard to success is that to achieve greatly, you must become a different person. It is not the material things you accomplish or acquire that matter so much as it is the quality of the person you must become to accomplish well above the average. The development of self-discipline is the high road that makes everything possible for you.”

Get one for every woman in your life. Real talk, real life, real advice. Are you a material girl? The truth is that, as women, we all have a unique relationship with money. We strive for financial security to support our family, ensure we can retire comfortably, create independence separate from our partners, and along the way, buy some nice purses. As much as we are motivated to make money, we often do not consider the crucial relationship between what we do today and how it WILL impact our life tomorrow.

94% percent of people who read this book gave it 5 stars on Amazon.

Each book (4 total) is short, sweet and full of financial and personal leadership lessons. If you feel that you do not have time to read each one, I suggest getting an Audible account, turning off Drake/Rih-Rih and listening to each book on your way to and from work. Busy Schedule? Try these solutions...(I'm really making it easy for you)

Start a free Audible 30 Day Trial that comes with 2 FREE AUDIBLE BOOKS OF YOUR CHOICE (make sure you choose two from the list, boo).

Prefer to read the text? You can also join Amazon Kindle Unlimited for 30 Days and read all four books for free.
